Welcome to Slingplayer for Mac. Here's how to get started ...

NOTE: Please remember that Slingplayer for Mac is only used:

  • If you have a Slingbox M1: For both configuring and watching your TV with your Slingbox M1;
  • If you have a Slingbox M2: Only for configuring your Slingbox M2. You must open a browser window and go to watch.slingbox.com to watch your TV with your Slingbox M2.
  • Any other Slingbox model: Slingplayer for Desktop isn't used. Please go to watch.slingbox.com both to configure your Slingbox and to watch your TV.

Now that you've clicked Download and the Slingplayer for Mac installation file is downloaded to your Mac (probably in the Downloads folder), here's what you do:

  1. Find the installation file SlingplayerDesktop-n.n.nn.dmg (where n stands for the version numbers ... these numbers can vary). The file is probably in your Downloads folder.
  2. Double-click the installation file to begin installation. The file takes a moment to set up.

  3. When the installation window appears, drag the Slingplayer Desktop.app icon into the Applications folder.
Slingplayer for Mac is now installed, and is in your Applications folder.

After installation, if you click the Slingplayer Desktop icon to open it, you may see this message if your Mac is running OS X version 10.9.5 or greater:

This message is the result of a security change that Apple made to OS X 10.9.5. It does not mean that there is anything wrong with Slingplayer for Desktop. Rather, OS X is simply asking you to verify that you installed the copy of Slingplayer Desktop that you're opening.

Here are a couple of ways to take care of this:

Method 1

  1. Locate the Slingplayer Desktop icon, either in the Applications folder, or from the Dock.

  2. Press and hold the Control key, then click the Slingplayer Desktop icon. (You can also right-click the Slingplayer Desktop icon.)

  3. Choose Open from the context menu that appears.

    You see this dialog:

  4. Click Open.

You should not have to perform this operation again.

Method 2

  1. Attempt to open Slingplayer for Desktop the usual way, so that you see the 'can't be opened' error.

  2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  3. Click the Security & Privacy preference icon.

  4. Be sure you are viewing the General tab. It looks like this:

  5. At the bottom of the Security & Privacy preference box, you'll see a message that Slingplayer for Desktop was blocked from opening.

  6. Click Open Anyway.

  7. Close the dialog box.

Use Watch on Slingbox.com to watch your TV with your Slingbox. To set up a new Slingbox, or change the settings on an existing one, use SlingPlayer for Windows or SlingPlayer for Mac (they're free).
